In a CNN story about wind turbines John Yancey talks about life staying the same way. He speaks of shadows and noise that upsets his sleep. Get some insulation, earplugs or play some ambient noise. Find a solution instead of bickering.

Listen Mr. Yancey…. for a person that is so tough I lived next to a church that had a loudspeaker play bells for up to an hour every Sunday. Guess what happened after I stopped complaining about them? I didn’t notice the sounds any longer when I stopped bickering.  I’ve heard turbines and the sound I have heard pales in comparison to the speaker system that blasted bells less than 50 feet from my bedroom that was underground. It was louder than my 15″ sub woofers.

If you want your life to stay the same, namely not live in a scorched earth that can no longer sustain life then you should just quit complaining. Your father is doing what is economically, enviromentally and just plain right. I hope my son does not hate me when he gets a small electric car that hums too loud and is not an atmosphere nightmare.

Shame, you hate your father for trying to make money and help save the world. Would you rather have no world to complain about? You sound a lot like Mark Cuban so I have to wonder if you two are related.

I was just going to say the same thing! I read this story and for once in my life I wasn’t shaking my head at the old-timers, I was shaking my head at their sons! The entire argument from Mr. Yancey and the other fellow is basically “Sir, I don’t like ‘em, so they’re bad.” I’m sorry, if I was Mr. Yancey’s father, I would have to look at him straight in the face and say “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for breeding such an idiot. Look, this planet can’t deal with any more crap and you know what, I’m getting to pay the bills just by having these darn things here. It may not be the ideal solution, but by damn it is part of one.”

I agree with you, John Yancey needs to seriously grow up. The entire article I kept imagining grown men weeping on the floor about how things have changed and throwing a temper tantrum.

    Absolutely unreal.

    Thanks for the wonderful commentary!

His reaction is just part of the problem IMHO. Wind power is one of the best options right now to reduce the population’s reliance on non-renewable power resources. When I took a college class that highlighted the fact a lot of the world population, especially Americans do not understand the problems we are having to deal with right now.

I do wonder however if this is just bitterness really, that one member of the family will get the money for the turbines, not Mr Yancey. It just seems unreasonable that his mind has not started to shut the noise out. I would be surprised if noise canceling ear buds would help him out… but I doubt that he would seek a solution to the problem.

I happen to live in the one of several places in WV that you cannot generate good wind power so I cannot help be a part of the solution. My five year old thinks that Mr Yancey needs to grow up and help save our planet since we cannot.

I’m a little shocked that someone out there read my comment but am happy to have others agree that it is unreal for the complaints.
