New drug for stopping smoking

So, after trying patches, inhalers, gum and lozenges I’ve decided to try a new step that my ENT just suggested to me: Chantix.

This is a radical new way of dealing with the addiction of smoking in many ways:

1. It blocks nicotine from being pleasured
2. It provides some nicotine like pleasure
3. They’ll even support you over 12 weeks.

Day ONE

I took the medicine as directed by the very well packaged wrapped weekly doses. For the first 4 days apparently, I’ll only be taking one pill, a .5mg, and then the full 1mg pill twice a day.

The gist is you take the medicine for a week first, continue to smoke and it’s accepted that the first day you take the pill you’ve set a quit date. The quit date must be the first pill of the second box.

I started my pills on a Wed, so I figure Tues-Wed I’ll be quitting not lighting up.

Funny thing is, it might be a placebo effect sorta talking here, but I think there is changes already. It’s not a major change but exactly what I figured would happen. However, it might all be in my mind.

The changes I see already is a ‘blunted’ effect when I do light up, the cravings are still there, but the rush doesn’t seem to be so much.

I figured there was going to be such an effect, as the drug targets the pleasure and doesn’t give you the ‘push the button get a carrot’ trick.

I’ll just have to see how the next day goes… by the end of the first week, I expect to feel a major difference when I do light up.. not feeling a rush.

I do expect there to be a major trick up it’s sleeve shortly.

The first week, and the half life of the drug seems to suggest that once it’s in your head, you gotta wait several days for it to clear out. You’re stuck in the therapy.

With all other methods, even zyban: cessate the pill/patch/inhaler and smoke a cig. I have a feeling I’ll want to get that pleasure, but I’ll know it’s 3 days away.

Once judgement occurs in morning and night, there is nothing I can do, the pill is already working away.
